  • BREwing back in hospital

Brian was admitted again yesterday after his last treatment. He was
so sick all Thurs night and was constantly gagging. I don't know why
the anti nausea drugs didn't work for him and I don't know what he could
have done to make it better. In view of his first week, I think he was
extremely anxious during the whole week of treatment and his
emotions may have made things worse.

Thank God he only had to do two rounds. I have no idea how he
would have been able to tolerate four rounds. Now, he has to
concentrate on recovering and hopefully, a few days on IV in
    the hospital will help.

Diane, There's probably not much different he could have done, what you just described was how my husband's third round of four went although he didn't have a hospital stay. He got fluids most of the first week into the third round and our one accomplishment each day was to get him in the truck and to chemo and back home on the recliner. It was horrible but it's over and done with, there was such relief when he finished chemo and started feeling better. Sorry to hear about this and ya'll hang in there. He won't feel 100% right away but he will feel better soon and if he can sleep as much as possible right now that will be a plus. Take care, April

I'm glad he's in good care and sorry about the tough struggle. Things will get better soon, but that doesn't make the present situation easier. Let Brian know we're thinking about him and wishing him the best.

I hope Brian is doing well - I know how frustrating set-backs can be, but with 2 rounds of chemo instead of 3 or 4, he'll bounce back great and have plenty of great recovery time. Sometimes it's better to be in the hospital. My boyfriend suffered some pretty nasty effects from the Cisplatin - he was seriously depleted of magnesium and calcium to the point where all of his muscles ceased up, but being in the hospital for this they were able to monitor him and take care of ALL his concerns. Good luck and please keep us posted!

                    FINALLY, I"M DONE!!!

Well, I finished my second, AND FINAL, round of chemo, although it wasn't as smooth as I had hoped, it was MUCH better than the first round!!! Very emotional for me on that Friday knowing that it was the last day. I have to say that being admitted was definitely the right idea for me seeing how things went through the first round. I certainly couldn’t have asked for any better nurses at Chester County, they were all absolutely wonderful!!! Not to mention also the nurses at the Chest County Cancer Center who got me through each day with their charm and compassion. There are truly angles on this earth and I was privileged to meet many of them through this whole ordeal.

I am feeling a lot better right now, just getting my strength back a little at a time. Also hoping that I miss out on the fun tooth issues that I had in the first round. If I can get through that, then I should be home free. Have a very good appetite at the time and continue to drink as much as possible so everything is on the right path and I can REALLY see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Just want to end this by thanking every single person who took the time to read and respond to a post of mine or one by my mom, DianeE, with encouraging words and thoughts. Those beyond doubt helped me get through everything, even at my lowest so thank all of you!!!

Well, guess that I spoke too soon on being completely done. My knees started KILLING me tonight right around dinner time, major joint pains!!! Not sure if I over did it today or if this is a side effect from my Nupregren shots that I have been getting. I know that bone pain can occur, but WOW, this is really killing me. TG I have some left over percocet from the RPLND.

My question to anyone who experienced pain related to their shots is how long did it last? I have one more shot to get tomorrow, then I should be done. Also, did the pain stay in a particular area or did it spread as time went on? Hopefully mine doesn’t spread anywhere else nor get worse.

                          brian,

my husband has had many neupogen shots, I remember him telling me they caused the most pain in the pelvicbone/hip area and in the shoulder joints. It seemed to last as long as he got the shots.

                          Hope the pain gets better!

Jason had pain in his right femur and it killed him when he walked up stairs. It generally last 3-4 days. To make it bearable he would associate the pain with the regrowth of bone marrow.
Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04. Full open RPLND 10/13/04. All Clear since.

Treated by Dr. Rakowski of Midland Park, NJ. Visited Sloan Kettering for protocol advice. RPLND done at Sloan Kettering.
