  • RPLND Tomorrow

Hey all. I'm going in to MSK tomorrow morning to have Dr. Shiendfeld slice me open. I'm a bit nervous, but overall I'm doing okay. About to go take my first dose of Phospho-Soda (YipEE!!) Any last thoughts before I go in?

          toomody,
Advice from my c-section and a colonoscopy.... Ditto on the pillow for coughing, laughing (you will do that again) and sneezing....the worst of all!! For the phospho-soda use REALLY soft toilet paper!!!! You are in excellent hands, and post when you can to let us know how you're doing!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll post here as soon as I am back online. I'll tell my mom (Nester on this board) to give an update before then. Also, I started a blog to share my cancer experience, which you can find at http://moodycancer.blogspot.com/

You are probably just about out of surgery now! And I'm sure Sheinfeld did a FANTASTIC job, as he always does. I look forward to your updates in a few days when you are back home. If you have any questions about recovery, I am more than happy to talk with you - my boyfriend had his RPLND at Sloan on July 5th so we aren't that far ahead of you!

                  toomoody's RPLND

                  Hi
I'm his mom and have talked to some of you. He's ok. Lots of "discomfort" as they say, but he came through surgery fine. He won't sit in the chair because it hurts to sit up. They increased his pain meds so he could sit up, but still won't and he has a pain in his side. He has walked a few times. I will say I'm so impressed with his nurses and Dr. S and this hospital. Everything is top notch.

Thats great news, I'm glad the surgery went well! Now its just a matter of getting up and walking around to get things going again. I remember they had to adjust my pain meds because I was still in a lot of pain after the surgery (which is expected).. Does he have an epidural? That worked wonders for me. I didn't really know how much it was working untill they took it out! ouchy.

                    Wishing him a speedy recovery.

No epidural. I had a bit of a problem taking deep enough breaths yesterday so they increased the meds so it wouldn't hurt as much. Nurse is calling me to walk so I'll post more later.

Bacak from the walk. Just doing the walking and breathing exercizes today. Still no ice chips even though I'm passing gas. Hopefully tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

                            Hey there!

I was just @ Sloan 2 weeks ago, 6th floor, right where you are helping my boyfriend move around after his RPLND. When he passed gas it was the best thing in the world, bet you never thought you'd think that! Everything is on the ups from there, and you should have ice chips tomorrow if you didn't today. After that, my boyfriend got to move up everyday - clear liquids, non-fat foods, and home! So, just know that you are doing awesome and are pretty much 1 day ahead of schedule from what I know. I hope you have some great nurses too, we had a few but one nurse in particular, Jackie, was great - she was young and had a great sense of humor.

Hope all is well and keep us posted - you'll be home in no time!
