I checked the reports on the last 2 cat scans and it has no mention of fatty infiltration of the liver. Hopefully it was just from the radiation and will bounce back in the coming months. Thanks for the great feedback Tony.

    Tony:

Excellent point on the fatty liver syndrome. I'm going to pick up a copy of my report from the last CT scan and see if it mentions anything about fatty liver. I could also stand to lose a few pounds and I know my blood sugar is in the pre-diabetic range. Which also can contribute to fat accumulation in the liver.

Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary! It feels great to get past the 1st year.

    Best wishes.

I just thought I would give a little insight on my situation. One month before my diagnosis of TC back in September of last year I saw a doctor here in town for a general checkup he told me that I had Elevated Liver test. I freaked out because I live a fairly calm life and at the time I didn't know what Hepatitis was. The following month I had my yearly physical with my regular doctor who is a gastroenterologist and I discussed the test results with him and he told me not worry about it. Then I was diagnosed with TC 3 days later and every month I go in for my TC test I have my liver studies done also. I was checked last year for whole lot of other things and they all came out as negative. My ALT and AST have always been elevated since I started tracking it and my provider doesn't seem concern. I wasn't happy and requested to see a specialist (hepatologist) I think that is what it is called and he ran a whole bunch of test also along with all the Hepatitis and liver disease test I had before. And the results all negative. Every CAT Scan I have gotten says fatty infiltration of the liver and they have all been consistent. So I got my letter yesterday from the specialist and this is what it said.

"It was my pleasure meeting you in the clinic on 8/08/06. As we discussed, I felt your liver abnormalities were probably from fatty liver. The additional studies I obtained would indicate that is indeed the case."

So after all the money, test, screenings, and doctor appointments I was told what my GP told me last year "Fatty Liver". I know why I got it too. I gained 40 pounds over the course of a year due to depression. Some people drink but I eat. I come from a hispanic background and we eat when we are happy and we eat when were down. I started biking and have dropped 5 lbs.

My only way to get rid of the fatty liver is to lose weight simple as that.

The last paragraph of the specialist letter read
"As we discussed, you are quite interested in losing 25 to 35 pounds in weight over the next number of months. It will be interesting to follow the course of you blood test in response to that weight loss. I wish you the best success in that venture."

I am 6 foot 1 and weigh 246 lbs and my goal is 205 lbs.

So do any of your CAT scan readings say fatty infiltration of the liver, that might be the case to the elevated liver function test.
    Take Care and God Bless

18 days to my one year anniversary being cancer free!!!!!!!!!!

Mine were high also at last check. It caused my doc to discontinue my hormone replacement, which s*cks. I had no other symptoms of liver problems. I'm starting to suspect that everyone's enzymes might be out of range at some time, we just have a better chance of seeing those elevations since we have blood tests a lot more often. I wouldn't worry too much for now.

Those values are constantly high for me, too. And I didn't have any radiation or chemo; I was told that the medical profession doesn't get too concerned until it approaches 5x normal.

I called and had the for the results faxed so I didn't speak with the doc about it yet. Curious as to whether this could be from the radiation therapy I completed on 6/26 or if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks!
