  • Hip Pain

Has anyone ever had hip pain as a symptom with testicular cancer? I felt good about the fact that the onocologist has my son scheduled to begin chemo, but today is day 3 that my son is taking vidocin for pain that has moved from his back, and then to his upper thigh to his hip. He says it is not really bothering his back anymore, and is now concentrated in the hip area.
I am worried again. I keep worrying that this may spread to the bone and that may be what is causing his pain.
If anyone has experieced this and can help .. please write and let me know.

I can't offer much help or advice, just a sympathetic ear. My husband has been having pain as well, his is going the other direction though. It started down in his lower abdominal area and is moving up, it is now painful closer to his ribs.

He is also having problems with gas, belching, a cough and his appitite is decreased quite a bit.

I have no idea if it is just his enlarging lymph nodes pressing on things or what it is.

We hope to hear from Dr. Einhorn tomorrow and will mention it to him.

Though I do have to say, my husband and I were talking about it his new lack of appitite and I mentioned he should have told the Dr about it, then it occured to me, what are they going to say? Sounds like cancer?

I hope in the case of your son it is nothing more then a lymph node pressing on something causing the pain.

My son had on and off bone discomfort during chemo. Remember the chemo is some really strong medication and it kills fast growing cells, hair, stomach lining, skin and bone marrow. Our oncologist thought it was the chemos effect on the bone marrow that caused my sons discomfort.
Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04. Full open RPLND 10/13/04. All Clear since.

Treated by Dr. Rakowski of Midland Park, NJ. Visited Sloan Kettering for protocol advice. RPLND done at Sloan Kettering.

Thanks for passing this information on dadmo; I was not aware and will discuss these things with the oncologist next appointment. He has not started chemo yet though.
The pain was in his lower back and then moved to the upper thigh/groin area and now it is mainly in the entire hip area.
I called the oncologist a little while ago to let him know. He will be in the office later today and will call us.
I have not seen any posts from anyone about similar symptoms and I have had worries about the possibility that it could spread to the bone.
I don't know if it is possible that the enlarged abdominal node could be causing pain in that area or not. I hope thats all it is though.

A sympathetic ear is welcome too! Thank you!

I see the doctor wasted no time getting your husband to surgery after he was diagnosed. SAME DAY! I love it. What is the next step? Is he going to begin chemo, or will he have more surgery? Your post is the first I have read about anyone having pain in the rib area and the other symptoms. I imagine others have had some of the symptoms your husband and my son are having, maybe they just have not mentioned it. Then again, I am new to this forum and I have not read everything posted.

My son will begin chemo on jan 29th. Jan 22nd if his CT scan of the chest (he is having that on the 18th) shows anything is going on there.
The doctor said the type my son has spreads very fast. The days of waiting seem to drag on and on. I have good days and bad. I guess I will not feel relaxed until the new scan is in showing us if there is any new spread; and the doctor tells me that my sons hip pain is only from the enlarged node, and treatment begins to rid my sons body of this evil disease.

Have you ever heard that chemo patients should eat plain yogurt? I heard this from my sons-in-laws mother. My son-in-law, had non-hodgekins lymphoma when he was 22.

The shoulder and collarbone pain was a night by night thing, didn't last long, but was intense . My rib area in my back lasted a few months but wasn't as severe. Tim

The plain yogert was probably a suggestion because it's so bland it wouldn't upset the stomach. My take on food during chemo is forget about any diet eat what tastes good and spoil yourself with high test ice cream. You need calories, fluid and protein in any form.

Well according to my son-in-laws mother the yogurt should be in the diet because of something to do with the chemo and yeast in the stomach. She says eating the yogurt helps prevent certain problems.. I think she said sores but I'm not positive

That makes sense. The chemo eats up the stomach lining which is what causes so many eating problems (avoid spicy foods). I can see that yogert would coat the stomach.

I know you can't stop worrying but with a confimed case of cancer the doctors aren't going to put you on a waiting list. They will move fast but that doesn't mean they expect trouble, they are just being cautious.
