OK gotta vent, my brother who is 2 weeks post VIP chemo, one more to go, anyways, this round is worse than the 4XBEP he had. He is MISERABLE. We got the cocktail pretty much down for the meds to keep him somewhat comfortable. But I'm gonna be selfish here, and I know he is going thru the worst thing imaginable and I am trying to help him in everyway, but he is just so #%^*?!} MEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been calling him nearly as much because he yells at me. I gave him directions to go somewhere today, and he called me screaming because he can't find the place, then hung up on me. I don't say anything to him, I just let it go. I'm sure he hates the world, and besides the fact that he should be speaking with a professional, can any medications cause him to be nasty? The nurse told me the Decadron can do it, but has anyone experienced this? Obviously the least of our worries, his attitude, if it's the meds oh well, not to much to go, I'll just grin and bear it.

Decadron is a steroid and he may be having roid rages. I was on prednisone for a severe allergic reaction to poison ivy and I was a total "rhymes-with witch"...screaming at everyone for the smallest things, almost told my boss to take a flying &*$#, feeling violent....I almost clobbered my husband with a 3 foot fluorescent light bulb that I couldn't get to light up, etc. I was a complete stranger to even myself for weeks.

The meds may be the cause...but that doesn't help you feeling hurt as the one he lashes out at.

Thanks Karen for the reply, I had time to calm down myself and feel stupid for even posting. It's got to be the meds, he's normally a very easy going guy.

I was going to say the same thing. Decadron made my husband grumpy as a bear and I felt so bad for him but at the same time I would tell him if he did not ease up I was going to smother him with a pillow Just kidding....but trying to take care of someone who is angry is difficult. Just remember that that is not how life will always be and he will be better soon!!

        Hang in the there.

          You are not alone

I am not sure the steroid they are giving my husband but yeah, he is not himself.

He has never been critical of me unless we were in some sort of heated argument.

But now days it is terrible. My driving his bad, he doesn't like some of the food I make, he is so short with the kids.

Yeah, it is pretty bad at times.

Try not to take it personally.

Of course I say that and I have been brought to tears a couple times this week because I am not used to him talking to me like that at all.

He's still nasty, but I love him and will help him in anyway. Sorry for the post

You may feel that now but you know that's not true. Anyone who visits this site to help another certainly "counts" even if it's not appreciated. We have had some visit here who don't "count" but have saved lives.

                  Hello,
I know what you are going through, my son (18) is 3 weeks post TIP salvage after chemo after 4 X bep. This last week he has been on 8 steriod a day to try and eleviate his sickness, his moods are up and down I feeling like anything I do for him is not good enough. He is worried about a brain scan he is having on Monday, we have to make allowances for there mood swings and other things but when we start to show our feelings are getting on top of us nobody can handle it. The only thing thats keeps me on the straight and narrow is when he say's sorry for the way he has treated me he knows he is doing it but cannot help the way he feels. His dad say's its like a man having PMT, It is always the one that is caring for them that they lash out at
                  So keep strong.

I agree with Karen! As caregivers we all feel like that sometimes and there is nothing wrong with that. Thanks for sharing your feelings because it helps the rest of us dealing with the same issues feel better knowing we are not alone! Hang in there it will get better.
