All I can share is that I also just completed by first round of bleo yesterday, and my white cells are down to 1.4. Starting today I get daily shots of neupogen through the start of the second round on Monday.

The doctor said he had never seen a case where neupogen did not boost white blood cells.

If nothing else it is encouraging to know we are not alone....as long as it isn't something that is uncommon I won't worry as much.

I don't remember how low my son's count went but at one point they considered giving him a blood transfusion rather then skipping any treatments.

    White count can vary widely

My white count would swing greatly sometimes even from day to day. My Onc said that even at 0.0, I should expect to get my chemo. Of course, infection is a real danger, but my docs wanted me to hold very strickly to the prescribed schedule. I got Neulast weekly and it would help, but my counts on a Tuesday would be in the 2-3 range and on Wednesday it could be 10+.

I suggest keeping the schedule . And Please tell him to FIGHT like Hell!

Actually that is his WBC on the Neulasta, which is the child of Neupogen (same drug, but with less side effects).

But are you saying that your blood counts didn't go any lower after that?

You don't have to worry about this. Depending on people, parameters of the blood go down after even the first cycle. I had to take neupogen during all my chemo because my WBC was almost 0 without neupogen.

  • Low white blood count after first round and Nuelasta

My husband had his last Bleomycin of the first round this morning. They did a CBC and his white blood count was down to 3.3 or 3300 depending on how you like to read a CBC, it was of course his Nuetrophils that were low. They were at 1.5 or 1500. They should be at 2.2 or 2200.

Has anyone else delt with low Neutrophil counts this early on? We meet with the Dr next Monday before we start round two.

I know delaying chemo is not an option for low white blood counts. I am not even thinking about that.

But I wondering what problems this will cause and what concern.

Does this mean by the thrid round his white blood counts will be dangoursly low? Does the chemo knock his WBC down every time.

Anyone else deal with low WBC after the first round?
