    Dude,
In the midst of battling daycare-derived colds there has been an uptick in expectoration; but the air has been so dry with the heaters on around-the-clock, that I do catch a bloody one every once in a while. I imagine the air in NJ is likewise dry this time of the year, so I don't think this is cause for concern.

Leave it to us science geeks to think of something like that!

    Jeez,

The above must make me look really unhealthy. In reality, I've done my share of skiing, Mt. Biking, rock climbing, and running (a number of marathon and 1/2 marathons and 1 full marathon with a PR of 3:45.)

After all my tests last month my GP said, with a completely straight face, "Except for the cancer, you are the picture of great health". Now THATs a quotable!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the speck came from my nose as it was mixed with a fairly solid strand of yellow/beige snot... so I won't worry about it too much. Right now, there isn't anything "to get checked". If it happens again, I may try to save it.

I SOOOOO wish I did not read this while eating oatmeal this morning ! I agree with dry weather as the cause but to ease your mind...and nightmares...I's get it looked at.

Since it is so dry and cold it could be from your nose. You can get a bit of a bloody nose that can drain back into your throat.

Not a bad thing to have checked though.

But I am hoping for you it is just a bloody nose gone south.

Speck of blood in hocked loogie

I've had a history of asthma. Really bad coughing and wheezing, and the stuff that used to come from my lungs was horrid, gelatinous, sinewey loogies, sometimes with specks of blood after particularly bad bouts.

Then a few years ago, the asthma resolved itself. I credit a better diet with less dairy (especially non-organic cows milk) and moving away from an ex-fiance and her cats.

I still hock loogies. In the morning, sometimes when working out. I sometimes check them for blood and they are always clean. Now, it's been cold and dry, and I'm hoping its nothing, but I hocked one in the gym today and was shocked to find a speck of blood. I'm sure its nothing, since I just passed my surveillance (nothing in Ab/Pelvis CT, CXR normal). Also, I had a lung CT late November. I know the answer as to what I should be thinking (worry about it if it gets worse), but I really want to know what y'all think.

    Regards,
