  • Beer and cancer

My son is in the mood for a beer today so we called the chemo clinic to see if it would be ok for him to have one.

The chemo nurse said it was ok in moderation and as long as its not his chemo week.

I thought I would ask here too since there seems to be so many differences in testicular cancer as compared with other cancers.

Has anyone ever been told that an occasional beer or two will in any way be harmful to someone that is being treated for testicular cancer?

Thanks! He is outside on a beautiful day having his beer with his brother and a friend. We agreed that 2 should be the limit.

A few beers will be fine. They may even help flush the kidney's.

Just keep in mind that booze will dehydrate you, so make sure you always have a water chaser (or some Gatorade) on hand.

I had a guinness yesterday, after my first day of BEP. No adverse effects, I just kept pushing fluids all evening.

Truthfully it was more of a mental thing to go have a beer. I don't really feel like it today.
Diagnosed 3/6/07, Left orchiectomy, 100% Embryonal Carcinoma with lymph nodes detected via CT. 3x BEP started 3/26/07 at UPenn (Vaughn), "all clear" on 5/28/07. Surveillance since.
