  • Our Chemo is officially OVER!

My husband finished his last Bleomycin today.

Yesterday for us almost seemed normal. He at mostly normal food for dinner and after dinner he spent some time playing with our youngest daughter. Something he hasn't done in a couple months now. He still laid down after that, but that was so much closer to normal then the last 9 weeks.

He did a CBC today, after his WBC was double normal last week I expected normal today. But alas today his WBC was low at 2.9, neutrophils were 1.4. His platelets were low today at 75 (normal is 140-440). They didn't seem concerned and said it was from the Cisplatin. So guess we will keep him housebound, well not compleatly house bound, but away from crowds, for another week.

He will do a PET/CT (yes this time the insurance agency approved the PET/CT in a heartbeat) on April 6th and will also have another CBC and Comp Panel done then. The then 10th of April we will be back to see the Oncologist to see the results of the 3 rounds of BEP, clearly we are hoping for the best!

What great news! It will probably seem more than a little weird adjusting to being finished with active treatment.

This is great Becki! I gather your daughter must be really happy to be able to play actively with her Dad again. Hopefully the recovery from the end of chemo will be swift so your husband can return fully to the daily routine. Congratulations!

              That is wonderful!

I was so excited for the last day of chemo and it was just seemed like a regular day and he just wanted to rest. I wanted to go out for a nice dinner and have a cocktail...but he was not in the mood. I think the last day was just as big a deal for me as it was for him.

I promise that he will start feeling more and more like his old self everyday!

Thanks you all for the great wishes.

And Margaret-I thought about going out to dinner Tuesday night but I know Bleo is so hard on him, so we are going out as our small family (us two and our three girls) on Friday night for a nice family dinner. Then in mid April we are going to have a weekend getaway, just him and I. It was our reward for him getting through chemo. It should be wonderful. We have been married a bit over 6 years now and never had a honeymoon, so this will be our very delayed honeymoon and our done with chemo celbration. And if everything goes as we are hoping and praying, it will also be our "The Cancer is Gone!" celebration!

I am taking my husband, Boyce (he posts here too) on a cruise and we are leaving on Saturday. It is his celebration! After 4 cycles of chemo and a full bi-lateral RPLND, I am sure he has earned more than cruise, but I wanted to show him how proud we are of him. We will be gone for a week, I will check in when we get back!

In a few weeks, when he feels better, you will have your fun dinner with your girls and hubby!
