    Tammy:
During my ride this morning the smell of the newly bloomed honeysuckle was amazing. I took a moment and stopped to enjoy the moment and send lots of great karma your way. I really believe everything will be fine.

I am writing from U of M and I wanted to let you know that Anthony is still in surgery.

He was taken to the OR at 7:40 am and they called at 8:25 to tell us they made the first incision.

        It is now 1:10 pm.

They have called a few times to let us know that everything is going fine with the surgery.

Soon as I can I will let you all know what they find.

Keep the prayers going guys .. thank you!

Robert, Anthony said just before he went into surgery that he wishes he had spoken to you over the phone last night.

Just thought you should know that.

Will check back soon as possible

Just as a warning don't let all the tubing coming from Anthony scare you. He's going to have a catheter, nasal gastric tube, oxygen and a few IV's, all quite normal. Disturbing, but normal.

              sweet dreams

I,m thinking sweet dreams for Anthony. For sure about the tubes. It is the insertion that causes the most discomfort, once they are in, they are usually no big deal, other than to look at. We had a funny moment for Russell. About two days post-op he realized that he had not urinated yet. He looked under the covers....wish I had that on camera. If Anthony doesn't have a PCA pump post-op ask the doctors to order one. It is a self regulated pain medication system. It is controlled, so he can't give himself too much, but can medicate himself instead of waiting for someone to come in. If he does have the PCA pump and is having pain...tell the nurses, there are always orders to allow them to give him extra medication for a few days. Don't be afraid of the meds...the more comfortable he is, the sooner his body can heal. They will also have him doing some breathing treatments. Slow, but sure is what you are after. This will keep pneumonia from setting in. By the sound of the communication that is happening and all of the previous work, you are in really good hands. With you, Russell's Mom, Sharon

I have to say, all my tubes went in while I was under anesthesia, so insertion was no big deal. However, I hated having them in and was incredibly relieved when they were removed. The tube down my throat was worst of all.

Ok sorry this is so brief and I cant respond to everyone yet because I am still at the hospital.
Anthony came out of surgery about 20 minutes after my first message; so around 1:30 - five hours for his surgery.

Dr. Hafez said he took everything from top to bottom on the left side. He tested the top and bottom margins of the mass and it was negative. They have yet to check the whole thing out. They have not yet tested all the other nodes/tissue they removed from the left side. He said that since it all was coming out anyway he didnt test it. we will know those results in a week.

He removed nodes in the middle and those were negative, so he left the right side alone.

It took some time to get Anthonys pain under control. Morphine wasnt doing it so he is on dilauded.

Will let you know more soon as possible.

I dont plan on being home tomorrow either, so I'll try to get use of this computer again.
