  • hate to be a nag

But according to my records, Boyce has been 60 days with out a blood draw. He has his RPLND in December and he is supposed to be going every 30 days for his AFP and HCG...and every 60 days for his CT with contrast.

I think he "feels" cured...and lord knows after a year of chemo and surgeries I know he is sick to death of this process...but he needs to keep up with these appointments, right?

Maybe going there reminds him of this ordeal. Has anyone else gone through this feeling? Anyone else having a tough time keeping up with their appointments? I know I am nagging him silly, but I am concerned.

Thanks in advance for the help and support.

First off, you are not being a nag . We are all a big, happy family, and we're here to help each other out.

The surveillance process (either by itself or post-chemo/surgery) can be a nuisance, but there's a reason for it. One needs to make sure that the beast is gone for good. Having gone through surveillance for the last 6 months, I can tell you that in between appointments and scans, I am usually feeling chipper and fairly well. However, as the time nears for the labs, there's the feeling that "here we go again... I hope it's not back." I was upstairs at the clinic earlier today because I had to reschedule an appointment with my oncololgist, and just going up the elevator gave me a bit of a feeling of revulsion --and all I had to do was talk to the scheduling clerk. So, yes, the reminder of the ordeal will still be there; but I'm sure (at least I hope) it goes away in time.

Thanks Fed. Called him at work to mention it again and he said that he went ahead and made an appt. to have his blood drawn tomorrow morning. Which is good...but I am going to have to keep close eye on him monthly to make sure he does not fall behind on his check ups.

God I am such a nag.

          Margaret,

You're not a nag at all. You're just trying to be his advocate, I'm sure he is in denial. Stay on top of it because they might not.

Thanks Joe. He went in for his blood draw this morning. So in about 3 business days I will start calling and asking for the results. They never simply call me when they come in to let me know everything is okay. I have to hunt them down like dogs . After getting through a few months of good results, I seem to feel a bit less anxiety waiting for the tests to come back.

I have read many times here about the anxiety people go through with the blood tests even after years. It's normal. My son Alex just passed a year with normal levels and I was nervous as can be two weeks ago when he gave blood.

Everything is good but the emotions are still raw and I think they always will be.

the numbers came back in last night, at least a day earlier than I expected.

                    AFP: 2.7
                    HCG: >.5 unable to detect

                    Happy dancing over here.
