Post-orchiectomy lump in scrotum

Just got a 3rd US today to check on my hard lump, seeing doc tomorrow, so I should know more by then. A few months back doctor was conservative saying 'it could take a long time' like in 'months'. He did mention to apply heat on the area to help the hematoma going away, but given the fact it could take months seemed something hard to keep on doing. Other than the heat thing, all I've heard is just to wait. Blood thinners help to avoid new blood clots to form, but do nothing to existing ones.

I doubt exercise makes much of a difference one way or the other. If you have a blood clot, the body has to use it's own mechanisms to dissolve it.

Regarding why testicle is not coming down, doc doesn't really know. He has mentioned the whole area, specially around the spermatic cord is somewhat inflamed which traps the spermatic cord making the testicle hang higher. If my blood clot is causing constant inflamation it could explain this.

I was thinking recently of this. I got a test that required a finger blood prick. I did get a small hematoma from it on the tip of my finger. It took will over a year for it to go away .. so for my suspected hematoma that is 1cm'ish it could take a long long time... if it even goes away on its own.

So doctor said it was definitely a hematoma ? did he tell you how long will it take for the hematoma to be gone? did he recommend you any medicine to reduce the size (or get rid) of the hematoma? I have been applying heat to my hard bump... ... do you think that's good or bad? I also wonder if doing exercise such as walking or running could cause the bump to take longer to be gone? finally, did your doctor tell you whether the testicle will eventually descend to the base of your scrotum? Sorry for asking you so many questions!

Also, the urologist was supposed to make my testicle descend to the base of my scrotum but so far it hasn't descended... I don't know if the surgery was a failure? or could it be that he purposely placed a hard self destructive ball very high on my scrotum in order to make the testicle descend very slowly?
I know I should ask all these questions to my urologist but as I said the urologist didn't want me to have a follow up appointment and now I'm waiting for him to see me at his most convenient time.

Hello NEC. Your experience sounds very similar to mine. It's going to be 6 months after my partial I/O and I still have a lump there and testicle hasn't descended as before. It's hard to tell if it's smaller now, was 1.5cm'ish before, I 'think' it's a bit smaller now. If it's getting smaller it's going very very slow. I'm going to try to get an U/S soon to have a more definitive answer about what's going on with it.

I don't have nor had tc cancer so I hope you guys don't mind my participation on this forum. I'm posting on this forum because I think I'm experiencing some of the issues being discussed on this thread. One month ago I had an indirect inguinal hernia surgery and I also had a surgery to fix a retractitle testicle.. The same day of the surgery I noticed a hard lump located very high on my scrotum.. This lump hasn't vanished even though it's been one month since the surgery.. After the surgery took place I called the urologist to schedule a follow up appointment but he said that it wasn't required.. However I have had two follow up appointments with the doctor who fixed the hernia,during the first follow appointment I was told that such hard lump was a blood cloth and in the second appointment I was told that I should schedule a follow up appointment with the urologist , I called the urologist to schedule the appointment and I was told that he had a busy agenda however he would probably be able to see me if it's really important so I'm waiting for him to call me back to schedule the appointment..



As I said I think what I'm going through is similar to what some of you went through after your orchiectomy. I had a orchiopexy and according to what I've read these surgeries are somehow similar.. by the way the urologist didn't make any incisions on my scrotum...



Anyways, I feel a hard lump very high on my scrotum... sometimes it feels like a little ball and other times it feels like a cord... I also feel that it changes of size throughout the day...

Right after the surgery they made me pee before I could leave and I remember looking in the mirror and seeing my little buddy missing.

The next time I looked was 2 days later in which the entire area was black and blue, but my testicle came back. It was like the same exact size as the original one (before it swelled up). This is what people are calling the grape.

It got smaller and smaller, but there is still something small there. My doctor had them do an ultrasound and they said that they thought it was a cyst.

What can I do to make this thing to away?

Pretty much all you can do is wait, healing takes time. Heat or cold might relieve discomfort, but probably no effect on healing.Ask your doc about exercise & follow his/her advise.Your doc knows what was done & how long it will take before exercise is advised.

I'm new to this forum so I apologize if it's against the law to reply to old threads. However I'm replying to this thread because I'm dealing with something similar.. At least that's what I think.

Two weeks ago I had two surgeries on the left side... one surgery was to repair an inguinal hernia (it was open surgery) and the other surgery was to fix a retractile testicle ( orchiopexy) . The same day of the surgery I noticed something very hard very high in my scrotum (on the left side)... I assumed that such lump was my testicle but I wasn't sure since my scrotum was very swollen... when the swollenness went away I discovered that such lump was probably a cord and then I realized that it was like a ball or something like that. Yesterday I talked with the doctor (not the doctor who performed the surgery but another general surgeon from the same location) and she told me that this hard lump is probably a blood clot.. Is this what the user Fed referred as the grape"? What can I do to make this thing to away? will applying cold or heat help? (I've been wearing a scrotal support since the day of the surgery ... is wearing this thing good or bad for "the grape"? how about doing cardiovascular exercises? would those exercises cause "the grape" to not go away or would those exercises cause "the grape" to vanish faster?

I had the same thing, urologist checked and was not concerned. It went completely away after a few weeks.

Post-orchiectomy lumps

Hi all -

I'm 23 and presumed to have TC. I had an orchiectomy a little over a week ago, and yesterday discovered lumps similar to the ones removed in what remains of that area. It feels like several small grapes connected. The mass that was removed was two lumps that were sort of combined, so naturally I'm a little worried about these new ones. I'm not sure of it's just my anxiety, or if it's something to e worried about...I'm meeting with my urologist on Thursday to discuss the pathology, and I did call yesterday to mention the appearance of these newest lumps. I've been glued to these forums since yesterday, and they're incredibly reassuring, but I'm still worried.

Any light that could be shed would be really helpful.

Well its nearly 12 weeks since my orchidectomy, all swelling and bruising now gone. I can hardly see the scar, its just a very thin line. Also "The Lump" has almost gone, have to search around to find it now. Hope yours has gone away now Jack.

I had an orchiectomy a week ago on my right testicle, however I feel a hard lump very high in my scrotum where the cord may used to have been. Does anyone know what this could be? I will be contacting my doc in the morning.

Hi Jack, I had a bilateral orchidectomy (both gone) four weeks ago, and like you, I was concerned about a lump the size of my little finger ( up to the 2nd knuckle) inside my scrotum.
Have they left something inside, kept going through my mind.
Anyway, on my follow up appointment, with the consultant who performed the surgery, he felt it, smiled and said its normal, and in time will shrink right down. Phew. no worries.

Hi gentlemen. This is my first post here. I discovered my own "grape" just last night and had a very restless night of sleep wondering if I was dealing with scar tissue or something far worse. I found this thread and was hugely relieved to discover that this is not unusual at all.

I had my orchiectomy on 10/23/09 and just completed my radiation therapy last week on 12/15/09. I have been very reluctant to do much self examination since the surgery, but last night I did for the first time and was not too happy to say the least.

So, I'm VERY glad to have found and answer and to have found this forum. I've been a message board user for years, but have been away from this kind of environment since about the time I discovered the swollen testicle that was ultimately diagnosed as TC.

Lump in scrotum

I had a unilateral orchiectomy on Friday 8/7/09, previous orchiectomy in 2000. It was done through the scrotum since I had 2 previous hernia surgeries with mesh. I had a penile implant in January 2009 so I have a small plastic pump in scrotum (works great).

I expected that after surgery that my pump would be all that remained in my scrotum but I have a fairly large lump high in my scrotum almost the size of the testicle. Is that normal? Also, can I expect that my scrotum will shrink up? I am wondering if the uro put in an implant which we never discussed.

What can I expect the first time having sex after recovery? Will ejaculation be painful and will the volume be close to previous?

Any info would be appreciated.
