Thanks for the update. The results are quite promising, considering that as you said, the AFP could potentially be coming from the yolk sac component they found. If you happen to speak to him or Tammy again, send them our best.

Im here to let everyone know that I have Anthony at home now. I'll be replying to more posts here and there as I see there are many and I'm tired
The pathology: 80% teratoma 20% yolk sac
No markers yet
I asked her if all the other nodes were negative and she said yes. I don't feel completely confidant that she knows as she didn't really want to talk to me about the pathology to begin with, and she didnt' tell me on her own that the other nodes were negative. I'm wondering if they even tested them, or since the margins above and below the mass were negative, they assume the other nodes must be too??
I will just have to wait to see Dr. Hafez at the followup appointment to find out, but I feel pretty good about the outcome. Im very hopeful that they got everything and Anthony will not need more chemo.
He is back to eating and everything, but he is nervous that he will go through that pain again, so he approaches food with caution. I told him that he is fine now but I know he will have to see for himself.
He is glad to be home of course, and so am I!
They took the staples out and placed peri-strips in place of those.
Well thats about all I have for now.
I'll catch up with everyone over the next couple days.
Thanks again for being there!

It's great to hear from you. I'm sure Anthony is very glad to be home to rest and recover.
Scott right inguinal orchiectomy 6/5/2003 > nonseminoma, stage I > surveillance > L-RPLND 6/24/2005 for recurrence, suspected teratoma but found seminoma, stage II > chylous ascites until 9/2005 > surveillance and "all clear" since

I'm so glad Anthony is finally home. Hopefully his recovery from surgery will be quick and uneventful, and he can get back to his regular life. I've been as worried about him as I was when my own son was going through this.
Glad to hear you guys are home! Sounds like he had a rougher time of it at the hospital...so hopefully he is resting and getting stronger each day at home!

Still hanging in there, anxious to find out about the AFP. I thought a couple days of rest after Anthony was discharged from the hospital and I would feel back to normal, but I'm more tired than usual and that is my excuse for not posting to everyone yet.
I keep signing in, and signing right back out
I know I don't have to tell any of you about the waiting and wondering, and the toll it can take.
I'm sitting here with my cuppa-java, willing myself to wake up and join everyone again.

Hey Brett
I don't know if he had a rougher time or not, but he sure did have a lot of pain and violent vomiting after a day of drinking water and juice. He thought he was dying and I had to re-assure him that he wasn't.
I read your site and I'm glad to hear that you are on the mend as well. Is your appetite returning yet? Anthony's is gradually returning. He eat's, but small amounts at a time.
He also lost weight.
During chemo he got up to around 184 and as of two days ago he is at 164. The nutritionist said he should weigh about 200 lbs. She gave him a list of things to help with that.
She told him to eat 6 times a day consisting of
High calorie/high protein, 2800 calories a day and try to get around 110 g. protein daily.
RIGHT! Thats A LOT OF FOOD!

Very good !
About the markers, you know, they need some time to go down.
Everything will be fine.
Yes I understand that it can take a few weeks for them to normalize, but just to see that it is heading in the right direction would be nice. I was going to ask the oncologist to have his markers checked this week, but I decided to just wait until after his follow-up appt. with the surgeon since that is now only a week away.
How are things going with you?

two guys in NYC are cheering for you and your son.
That RLPND is Danny's goal to get to... he can't wait to join the club!
I wish Anthony healing, a smooth recovery and continued success!!
-Michael
Well I pray that Danny will get there very soon too! He is a very strong young man, and an inspiration to us, and I'm sure to anyone that is battling this disease.
He is also very lucky to have a brother like you to stand strong in this fight with him. I read your posts and think of you both often.
Thank you for cheering us on! You and Danny certainly have the same from us and everyone else on this forum.
Prayers for you and Danny.
HUGS,

Thank you Scott, yes we are both glad he is home recovering. I read in another thread that you have having your scans today.
Waiting to hear that everything is ok is hard.
I just said a prayer for you, and I am sure everything will be fine.
Will be watching for your results.
