  • Its Time Again

Tim has his CT Scan, blood work & Chest X-Ray tomorrow. His Doctor's appointment is next Wednesday. IT has been 15 months since he was orginally diagnoised. He did the 2x Carboplatin as he was Stage 1A Seminoma. I am so scared & nervous- the doctor's office usually calls the next day, so I get to go through all the wondering if and when are they going to call. I did so well up until today. I just took Xanex for the first time. I am pretty scared. Tim's Wife, Kelly

    Kelly,
You sound like me...except we're at 19 months and I take an Ativan! Same deal....it kicks in a few days before the test then I am checking the answering machine a bazillion times a day from work in case the office calls. Ray waits a week for results, which are given to him at his office visit.
Tim and Ray were aggressive going after stage 1 seminoma...we need to keep reminding ourselves that the chance of a recurrance is very low. I definatley sympathize with the anxiety. I know it's hard, but hang in there!

I never thought of the ativan...that got me through several nights during the treatment why not during testing time. Jon has his CT Scan today 8 months post RPLND and blood work August 15th which will be 1 year from HDC! Until testing time the cancer is tucked back in my mind, but the anxiety rears its ugly head a day to two before tests.

Good luck to Tim and everyone else!

Kelly, Margaret, Rosy, Lori, and Alex:

Best wishes to all of you for clear results. I know how stressful these tests are, even several years out.

Definitely consider asking you doctors for some anti-anxiety meds. Ativan has helped me through some stressful days and nights (how about that Sis, we even get the same meds ).

My doctor's office is never consistant, sometimes they never call, my doc said if they don't call the tests were OK. Last month, they called the same day I had the CT -- and scared the heck out of me -- just to tell me "all clear"

I'll be thinking of you all.

Well, we do have that common genetic factor!

All Clear- I do have a questions though....

Thank you everyone- I really appreciate the support and Tmi was gievn the all clear today.

I do have a question though. Tim does not like to go to the doctor and is very willing (although whines and complains) about going for the every 4 months checks. Today the doctor asked him if he was going regularly for physicals- he looked at me and answered no. Tim's blood pressure is fine, his bloodwork is fine- ironically we had the insurance blood work done a month before he was diagnoised. Do all of you or your husbands go for yealry physicals, honestly? I mean Tim agreed when he is 40 he will go, but he is only 34.

                  Thanks in advance.

First of all....yippee for the great CT results.

I will answer you honestly, Boyce will be 40 next year and has never, ever been for a physical. And has not had a physical since he was told about the cancer. I assumed that going to the cancer center and being looked at from the rooter to the tooter (sorry, a little southern humor) would certainly be enough, but after hearing this, maybe I am mistaken. I am not sure I could get him to go even if I pushed. I struggle just to get Boyce to remember to do his blood work and CT scans every few months.

                      Kelly,
Great news on the all clear! I think Ray was in his 30s when he stared going for physicals. Good thing, because they dound he has high BP and high cholesterol (despite being skinny). It seems like overkill a bit, but the physical gets the urinanalysis, full bloodwork, EKG and checks for blood in the stools. I think it's an extra measure of reassurance.

I think it is important for anyone who has had chemo to start getting yearly physicals. My BP and Cholesterol were perfect before treatment and both of them elevated above normal 3-5 years after treatment. I'm not sure about cholesterol but I do know that chemo can effect your BP so it's good to monitor it over the years and take meds if needed. Slightly elevated BP over a long period of time will really effect the duration of your life. At least thats what my urologist told me.

                            Great news!!!

Rob is 35, he's only gone the last two years because we 1. finally found a great GP, and 2. His father had a genetic chromosomal disorder that Rob may have inherited, so that was his first "true" physical in years. And then all this happened. So he will continue to do it yearly. Whether he wants to or not.

Thakn you for all of your comments. You guys make me laugh. I agree with Margaret (you are a hoot!), my husband upon inital diagnosis was not amused at all of the prodding and poking and that is part of the problem. Short of makign the appoint (which I do anyway) and drugging, having my naighbor carry him to the car and so on I do not know if that it a battle I will win. (kidding of course) I do appreciate all of the comments & believe along with you that physicals are the right thing to do.
