So far so good. No frozen section so will have to wait til next week on the path. Nodes looked and felt ok so if anything it should be relatively small.

Recovery is smooth so far but I think lying in bed on first day is the easy part.

    Thanks for all the support!!

Wow, you're recovered enough already to make a post from the hospital? You're doing great!

I need to add a Matrix-like "whoa" to Scott's post. That's impressive that you are in such a great shape after an RPLND. The lack of a frozen section is really not a big deal. Besides, a frozen section can give you some information but certainly not as reliable as getting a paraffin section. Take care with your recovery, and don't overdo it! All the best for (what is looking like) a prompt recovery,

Difference is spinal tap vs heavy drugs. I don't know about quick recovery but I am definitely more awake. Have had a few bumps, I do not recommend having an ng tube do-over for instance.

Posting here just makes me feel better, just like after my I/O. My visitors have gone for the moment and its nice to know you guys are there.

That makes me squirm! I was not friends with my NG tube.

                  Update

Things are moving along, I am coming up on 2 days post-op but it feels more like 2 weeks. I have been up and around a little bit but need to get up more.

Pain management has been very good with a combination of epidural and morphine. I'll be off those tomorrow morning. I should be going home Tuesday.

The hospital staff has been great (although they won't stop puhing the ice chips!). I have also been really lucky to have so much family around.

Well, almost ready to go home. Have had a few minor complications with the incision site not cooperating so I will have to wait until tomorrow. The Foley cath is out and the only thing left in is the IV. So far the whole thing has not been nearly as unpleasant as I was expecting although I have to admit that it feels like I've been in the hospital for weeks. Not enough sleep!

                        Catch you all later,

Sleep is an elusive thing in hospital rooms! Rather ironic isn't it? Your true recovery will start at home when the ZZZZZ's finally find you.

                          Happy thoughts from California!

John, I am happy you will be here to share your story.

The RPLND remained one of those "biggies" we were scared to death of when we started this ordeal. Both of us looked that the surgery as horrible and we really pushed back when they first suggested it. In fact, we looked into ways that it could be done with a lapro. but in the end realized that the lapro was not the best way to go. The standard surgery is not only safer, if you can believe that, but also more effective towards a cure in my opinion.

Anyway, if we had you back then and we could have shared this with you, like we are doing now, we would not have been so afraid of it. Looking back the RPLND for us was not the worse thing we endured, although we were certain it was going to be. It was no fun, please don't get me wrong, but Boyce did great, felt better sooner than expected and was back to work in 2.5 weeks after surgery (he has a desk job which made it easier).

Hearing how great you are doing will really help people that are having to consider this surgery themselves.

                              hi

                              John,
                              You are doing very well!
Relax, walk if you feel good and try to keep small amounts of food, but eat 4-5 times per day.
                              Listen your body.
I wish you fast and easy recovery and “all clear” nodes pathology.

                                John -

Its wonderful that you're going home but now Peter has me confused. I thought nothing by mouth after RPLND for at least a week?

Or was this RPLND different than what Maria's husband and Scott had?
