  • Fiance done with BEP, still worried! :(

Hi everyone, i am still new at this site.

My fiance Brian, was diagnosed with stageIII on 4-18-07
lesions on the lungs and mass in his abdomen. he feels great now! no more pain (which was really bad in the beginning) hes just a bit achy and nauseas sometimes, he just had his procrit shot (white blood cell shot) on saturday, which made him achy. his Markers are: Beta HCG = 23! AFP = 9. his last shot of bleo is on 7-26-07 and he will also have a ct-scan that day and we will meet with DR. Bosl and his surgeon Dr. Sheinfeld to discuss his RPLND.

here is my concern, has anyone on this forum had the cancer spread to his lungs? the ones in Brians lungs are small. the largerst one is i think 3 cm?
a few weeks ago, Brian had to be rushed to sloans the same day of his Bleo shot because of high fever. turns out the he just had a reaction to the bleo and there was no infection. but as they were testing him, they did a chest x-ray. now the last one he had was on 4-17-07, which was in the beginning of this nightmare. the recent chest x-ray still showed the spots on the lungs

how can he still have these spots on his lungs when his markers went down so much?!?! . he still has to have a ct-scan, but i am very nervous about this.

Please someone help if you know anything about this!

Dawn, there are others more versant than me on the subject of lung spots and I am sure they will respond to you quickly, but what I have learned is that many people have spots on their lungs that have nothing to do with cancer. If those spots were tumors with cancer the BEP more than likely killed the cancer so the spots may remain but the cancer is dead. Some have had surgery to removed tumors in their lungs and they have done well. Also, many TC survivors have had high fevers with bleo so what your fiance experienced has happened with other. Hang in there, Dawn, and welcome. (His is in good hands at Sloan.) Dianne

THANK YOU FOR RESPONGING TO ME MOM!.... I AM ALSO WORRIED ABOUT THE ONES ON HIS LIVER?... HIS MARKERS ARE ALL THE WAY DOWN! WHICH IS GREAT! BUT.. I READ ON THIS SIGHT OF A WOMAN WHOS BOYFRIEND HAD TO HAVE A LIVER TRANSPLANT BECAUSE OF THE SPOTS ON THE LIVER!!! YIKES! - I THINK MAYBE THAT IS WHEN A PERSON DOESNT RESPOND TO THE CHEMO? AS FOR THE SPOTS ON THE LUNGS... I READ LANCE ARMSTRONGS BOOK WHICH WAS GIVEN TO US WHEN HE WAS 1ST DIAGNOSED ALONG WITH A JOUNAL, THAT LANCE TOO! HAD LUNG TUMORS AND HE DID NOT HAVE SURGERY.

I WILL NOT REST UNTIL THE CT-SCAN COMES OUT OK

they havent said anything about the spots on the liver. they just keep saying how GREAT he is doing! and his markers are coming down do well!. i am just scared as hell because someone posted on here that their loved one has to have a transplant! that was NEVER mentioned to us! his markers coming down means less cancer, RIGHT?

            Don't worry

            Dawn,
I have unremarkable liver spots, and a lung nogule that was present before, during and after chemo- and I still have it. It is nothing to worry about- perfectly benign. I was also treated at Sloan, and had my RPLND by Dr. Sheinfeld. His radiology team caught my recurrence, a tumor in my lung.
You are at one of the best centers in the world for TC, and remember that they keep saying how great he is doing?

They tell the truth there, so try not to worry so much .
If they are concerned about any spots, they will order a biopsy.

The only thing I find a little pecular is that you are on BEP, I thoght Sloan always prescribed 4xEP- but that is no worry what-so-ever. Both protocals have terrific results.

Listen to the doctors, and try not to worry about other cases.
            Keep us posted.

Thank you SO much for the confidenc! yes Sloans has the best Dr. and we have the best also! and i have a habit of reading too much into things

so you said you still have the spots on the lungs and liver? what were your markers? Brian's HCG = 23 and the AFP = 8 so you are saying that if the markers are low that the cancer in those spots are not there? which Dr.s did he have? how long have you been in remission for?

                Relax Dawn.
Markers going down means that the chemo is working!
The spots on my liver and lung are NOT cancer, just benign tissue masses, and that is very common.
I'm not reallt sure what the definition on "remission" is, but my official ALL CLEAR was determined by my post chemo CT Scan.

You should voice youe concerns with Dr. Bosl or Mary Ann, his nurse.
If they tell you things are going well, believe it.

yes you are right, i will definatly remember that.

dr. Bosl and Maryann are GREAT people!

from what i read on the ct-scan from the very beginning. the ones on his liver were a bit large? but not effecting his liver function (or else they would have said something) how big were yours? did you have few of them?

                  sorry for being so nagging
