    Hi folks.

I had surgery to remove a testicle this past wednesday (August 1). Since then I have been mostly recovering from the incision made in my abdomen (assuming this is because I may have had a few lymph nodes in the abdomen?!).

Anyway yesterday and today my scrotum has been worsening, ts slightly painful and much more bruised and purple than it has been. Is this part of recovery or does it need draining?

    Regards
    Sy

Welcome to the forums. I hope you're resting and recovering quickly. The incision for the orchiectomy is made along the "bikini line" and the testicle is removed through the inguinal canal. See this link for some discussion on inguinal versus scrotal orchiectomy.

From what you posted, I suspect your recovery after surgery is proceeding normally. If anything concerns you, though, by all means, ask your doctor about it.

      Greetings Sy,
The incision for the orchiectomy has to go through muscle and other tissue, so it's going to take a while for all the swelling to recede. Also, sometimes hematomas do form that will drain into the scrotum. It's really nothing major, but if it seems to be worsening, I would ask your surgeon. You should be having a follow-up sometime soon to check on your progress and to review your pathology. Hope this helps out.

For me, the incision became much more "swollen" in the days following the surgery, but was back to normal in about 8 days. The pain in the scrotum will also go away after time.

Hi Sy! Welcome to the forum...we hope that you find comfort and good insights here. Sorry you had to join the club. It was a lot of relief for my husband Andy to apply ice to the incision around the "bikini line" as Scott referred to it, as well as the scrotum. Andy's did become quite swollen and purple and looked so much worse than the incision site...but the ice will help with the swelling and you'll feel much better. Here's to happy thoughts for your continued recovery.

My incision feels like there is a hard tube buried under it. Does it stay that way for long and is this anything to worry about?

Sadly the tube feeling and discomfort are normal. A pain in the butt, but normal. Of course I am no doctor so if your pain is concerning, it never hurts to go to the doctor and have him take a look.

My husband's scrotum was very swollen for weeks post surgery.

That is scar tissue. It will decrease significantly, but will always be there. After about 2-3 weeks the "buldge" where your incision is will start to go away.

I've suggested this link before, even though it's to information on a site about hernias. It provides a good description of the "healing ridge."

I had a lot of bruising on the penis also, not just the base, but all along the side, it was swollen also, not a pretty sight , but common. But if you think it's getting worse, better to see the doctor.

                            best wishes.

I had to write...there is some humor in all of this...

I developed a hematoma that when my surgeon saw it said "please cover that up"....I was black & blue from the surgical scar, 8 inches down my leg...and my entire penis was black & blue....sorry - but had to laugh a bit when you said the base is discolored...

my wife is next to me as I'm typing this and we are both laughing at the memory...

keep an eye on it, have them look at it if you are real concerned...but around my scar it was swollen the size of a softball...scared me to death...did not scare the docs though...they just wanted to make certain I did not get an infection...never did...

but was it ever ugly....I did take pics when I emailed the doc...but I'll spare you...
