    Ouch! My Right Ball Hurts!

    My right testicle (the survivor) has been really sore the past few days. Much like my left was preceding my left orchiectomy and EC diagnosis.

    The thing is, I am terrified to do a full exam. My nut feels a little swollen, but not as hard as my left did when I had the tumor. Truthfully, I'm scared as hell I'm going to lose my other ball. The calming thing is, I beat it the first time, and I would go through another 3x BEP just to say "**** you cancer" again if I had to.
    I've been through it already, I'm not afraid of the cancer part, but I'm terrified of losing my last ball.

    I have an appt with my oncologist in 3 weeks, so I know it's not life or death, I just want the pain to go away, and my ball to return to normal.

    I ****ing hate this.
    Diagnosed 3/6/07, Left orchiectomy, 100% Embryonal Carcinoma with lymph nodes detected via CT. 3x BEP started 3/26/07 at UPenn (Vaughn), "all clear" on 5/28/07. Surveillance since.

    Hi Joe.
    It is very unlikely that you have another TC, and many guys on this site have felt pain and discomfort post treatment.
    Happened to me too, and I took an advil and felt better.
    Sorry that you are feeling pain, just know that it is common- I think it has something to do with the remaining testicle "kicking in". My pain lasted for about 3 weeks. Hang in there.

    So... How was the wedding???

      Advil hasn't helped at all the past two days. I know that it is statisically likely that it is nothing, but it is still enough to make me worry. Plus physically uncomfortable.

      Wedding was fun, but out photographer was an ass. The honeymoon was incredible. I've tried to attach a pic of me at Shell Beach in St. Barth's. I'd live there if I could afford it.

        Get an ultrasound, but I would bet my house it is a hormonal issue, check my thread furthur down in this forum. http://www.tc-cancer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5908

          Hey Joe,
          Great to hear from you, although probably better under other circumstances. Pain in the remaining one is quite common, but if it is causing major discomfort, you might want to talk to your urologist about it and perhaps get an ultrasound to allay your concerns. Most likely it is nothing. Remember that righty now has to work overtime, so that could be a plausible reason for the discomfort.

            Hi Joe: Congrats on married life...based on that picture you posted, looks like you and your lovely bride had a gorgeous setting for your wedding. Sorry to hear about your photographer, but I'm sure the pictures in your mind will always be so much better than anything a photographer could have taken anyway.

            Andy had a lot of pain in his right testicle also, but this happened about four weeks after his RPLND. At first they thought it was an infection so they gave him an antibiotic Cipro which made him so nauseous (especially 'cuz he couldn't take it with any food because of his complication) so then they countered with the anti-nausea Compazine. Didn't seem to help because the swelling and pain remained, and he had to discontinue the antibiotic since it was still making him vomit. They ended up doing an ultrasound but that didn't show any new growths. The swelling eventually subsided and the pain went away after another two weeks...but I agree with Fed that you really should get an ultrasound if you're in complete discomfort and also for peace of mind.               I too had and sometimes still have some pain in my survivor, which started about 5 weeks post I/O. I got an ultrasound which showed only the cyst on the epididymis which was already there when I had my first ultrasound 3 months ago.

              As other have said before me, it may be just some hormonal imbalance. Get an ultrasound, it'll give you peace of mind.

                a week later it still hurts and is starting to feel firm/swell... I'm calling Vaughn tomorrow to see if I can get an ultra sound... Not feeling very good about this. at this point, the testicle feels almost exactly the same, but smaller, than my left one did right before the orchiectomy...

                  Get assertive about the ultrasound!!!! It is a cheap and easy quick test for any care facility. You deserve the peace of mind!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sharon

                      Hi Joe, I hope it goes well with Dr. Vaughn today. He ordered the US on my survivor after several weeks of pain, the pain seemed to fade instantly after the neg results! I was so clearly cancer free in the survivor, that the Radioligist actually came in and gave me the good news- right there at HUP.
                      I certain you will have the same result, and your pain will be only a bad memory of this horrible trip.

                        we decided last night to go to the ER instead of forcing an appt this morning. We were there from 8pm til 3am, but it was time well spent... "Medicine on demand" I called it, and I'm very glad for it.

                        The US was clear, they saw no signs of any growth or torsion.

                        I wish I knew what was causing the pain, but as long as its "nothing", I'll happily live with it! The ER doc speculated that maybe because my righty is a loner, there is more space for it to "swing" around, and that may be causing torsion-like pain.

                        Of course then, this afternoon, my wife goes in to work, and promptly passes out, so I have to hop a cab from center city Phila out to one of the suburban hospitals to see her in the ER. We've spent way too much time in the ER the past 36 hours. I hope we stay out for a looooong time.

                          Hey Joe: Glad to hear the ultrasound came back clear...hope the little lady is okay too. Since the ER doc was speculating on the cause of pain, are you still gonna try to see your urologist anyway???

                              Wow, what a busy few days for you. I'm real glad to hear your clear, I'm sure the pain will soon subside.
