    Dawn -

Don't worry about the renal failure with Brian. Rob had a set of things that led up to it. The fluid wouldn't drain from his body, and his WBC was up, so they thought there was an infection somewhere - but there was no fever - so they did a CT scan to look for an issue. The contrast dye from the CT was too taxing on his remaining kidney, and his creatinine level shot up, which is bad. (Creat. level should be 1.2-1.6 and Rob's was 6. something)

Usually with a CT scan you have to drink water to flush the dye out of the kidney, but Rob had so much fluid in his body that they couldn't allow that. So it was a culmination of a bunch of things, but the fluid released finally and his kidney is now fine.

And Margaret is right, Sheinfeld won't let Brian eat or drink anything for a few days at least after surgery. Just do what he says.

Don't worry about him eating too soon. Dr. S is his doctor and I promise you he will NOT let him eat or drink before he feels it is safe. In fact, I think he waits a little longer than needed...but better to be safe than sorry. The low fat drill will be more critical once he returns home from the hospital. No fat for about 10 days and then introduce fats slowly into his diet. Some lean chicken and some rice. Don't feed him a steak dinner as a reward on his 10th day or anything . We will help you through it. It is not as taxing as it sounds.

DAWN!!! So much relief and congratulations to you both. Yeah, Sheinfeld is a busy guy but its really only three weeks away and it will be here before you know it.

In the meantime, we will drill this into your head: DO NOT let Brian eat too soon after RPLND surgery... low fat for three days before the surgery, FAT FREE in the hospital and for two weeks after. Very important.

thank you Stacy - we will definatly remember that. his mom keep stressing to him the fat free diet. Brian is VERY stubborn though. how is Rob doing? i read on one of your posts, that he went into renal failure?!! that is scary because Brian also has to have a kidney removed. what happened?

Great news !! My god, it's funny, lots of us have never even met, yet all of us have in some way been affected by this disease, and when not so good news is posted we weep and feel the pain of others, yet when GREAT NEWS like this happens, we are so excited and a smile is put on our faces for the rest of the day because it means one more survivor. I'm so happy for the both of you.
