Nausea - Pre-chemo

Hi,

On August 14th my right testicle was removed. Aug 7th blood results showed no tumour markers. Tomorrow I visit the Urologist and hopefully they have favourable patholoogy results.
Over the last week I have had some nausea and dizziness, usually more in the morning, by later afternoon or early evening I feel better. Think it is stomach related, and I have been popping all kinds of enzymes to assist my digestion.

Has anyone else experience nausea after the orchidectomy, but pre-chemo or any other therapy?

Hey RV,

I'd like to start by saying something very important.......unless your doctor told you otherwise, there is no reason to assume u will need chemo.......without your path report, and especially with negative pre opp markers, there is no reason to classify yourself as "pre-chemo." Hope for the best!

The nausea and dizziness could be caused by almost anything......possibly even by taking too much medication (pain or otherwise). Change in eating patterns and not getting enough hydration could also cause dizziness. It could even be something as simple as worrying yourself sick due to not having all the answers yet. If it gets really bad, give your doc a call and see what he says.

I would lay off the pills, try to relax, and maintain a healthy diet. Your pathology report will shed some more light on your situation. You will be fine.

Hi RV, Sorry that you have had an IO, I would like to know the events that led up to that.
The pathology report is important, that will be used to determine your next treatment decisions.
When you get it, post the details and we can help you understand it all.
As for nausea now, I would not recommend that you discontinue any meds prescribed by your doctor, but DO call their office and tell them everything you are feeling- and everything you may be taking they don't know about.
It might even help to keep a log.

Big thanks to "fuse929" and "already bald" for such a quick reply.

Tomorrow I will get the pathology results, and will post for your advice.

The only meds I am taking are from a Chinese doctor, she changes the formulas weekly (been going there sinch June 29th)...about 3 weeks before I discovered the lump on my testicle. Most of the meds relate to immune system boosting, anti-cancer, wound healing and digestion related. Must say the meds she gave me last week were much better...the thing with the Chinese stuff is that you may feel slightly worse, before you feel better.

I also radically adjusted my diet about 3-4 weeks ago...I am type A blood, and now follow "Eating Right for Your Type" closely. Being previously more of a bbq steak with french fries and red wine type of guy, the new soya and non-meat and mostly fish diet (Ok you got me, I confess, I still eat Chicken and Turkey) is still taking some adjusting...wonder if my nausea and dizziness could be blood sugar related...

You absolutely must tell your oncologist what you are taking from the Chinese doc...I assume these are herbal and naturalistic stuff. They MAY alter your markers and give false positives. Please make a list and discuss with your oncologist. Some herbal remedies interfere with chemo and some cause increases sensitivity of the skin to radiation treatment. If you need further treatment you need to be absolutely certian yu aren't shooting yourself in the toe with herbals.

Received pathology report Sept 6th

Here is the news from the pathology report as of Sept 6th...I have stage 1 "classic seminoma", which, at this stage is semi-good news. They estimate the malignant form of cancer was within the removed testicle only. Today they took chest x-rays and next week or so a CT scan will be done (usually in this case only abdomen area)….I will be assigned to a TC clinic with Princess Margaret.

Difficult Decision

Soon I will need to decide whether to choose surveillance or some active treatment? It is a very difficult decision. I will be cured one way or the other, but different folks will give me different advice.

My biggest problem over the last week is nausea and my mind is not clear. The nausea gets better towards the end of the day, because i eat. My stools vary day be day, some times regular, but more loose
than normal. Today, very dark green, where I can see undigested food.

I am seeing a Chinese herblist since June 29th, and she varies the formula weekly. I have researched the herbs, lastweek mostly stomach and spleen strenghening, anti-cancer, boost immune system, boost body for radiation (that herb i stopped for now). I will see her again today.

I am at the end of my rope on this new problem and will go to the hospital for tests this afternoon.

Could the above be hormone related because I lost one testicle?

No, it is not from low testosterone. Your I/O was a few weeks ago and stomach upset with green stools loaded with undigested stools is not from low testosterone. I guarantee it's from the herbals you are taking. You need to get your oncologist up to speed on what you are taking ASAP. Seriously.

As far as RT vs. surveillance it is entirely your choice as far as what your are comfortable with.

I suggest that you cut out all that herbal stuff, tell your doctor that you want to see a clinical dietician ASAP.
Say goodbuy to the Chinese lady.
Then follow their instructions.
I would choose RT if I were you.

I have to agree with everyone else. I'm not against alternative medicine but you should stop the herbs. If nothing else your body isn't tolerating them. You have to let your oncologist know what you're taking and if you can find a good nutritionist in your area, most health clubs will have one.
