Bummer, Boyce has another hernia. I asked him to help me carry something this morning and the look on his face spoke volumes. So yep, he has known for a few days that he is going to have to go in for yet another surgery. I feel almost guilty for using up space talking about a hernia when Danny just had his smart little brain operated on...but I guess I have to come somewhere.

Being that he is going to be out of work soon, which raises all kinds of insurance questions...I guess we need to get this taken care of asap. Is this kind of thing related to the cancer/chemo/rplnd? I was not sure if anyone has had this happen post RPLND. He is on his way to a football game where I have pointed my witty wife finger at him and instructed him to only lift 12 oz and nothing more.

I guess with all that is going on, I just did not expect to be headed back to the hospital.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

    Hi sweetie,
Any time the muscle layer is cut and sutured there may be a weakness. Geeze, why is it when you have your mind full of things to deal with another thing comes along?

      Margaret,

I am so sorry that boyce has to deal with this. I hope he's not in any pain. Danny's struggle is one of many that doesn't take anything away from anyone elses.

We're thinking about you guys and wishing boyce a very swift recovery. Any idea when he's going in for surgery? I know my dad had a hernia that he neglected to take care of for some time and eventually it got worse to the point where he could barely sit or stand without real trouble. Has he seen a doctor yet? Any surgery date?

Boyce, if you read this, don't put it off! Hang in there my friend.

      Thinking about you both,
      Mikey

        Margaret:

Are Boyce's hernias along the RPLND incision line, or are they inguinal hernias?

Incisional hernias are not uncommon, and inguinal hernias in men are also not uncommon.

I had multiple hernias along my RPLND incision. With any hernia, it's better to have it repaired sooner rather that later. There is always the danger a portion of the inestine will become stuck in the opening (strangulation). At this point you are dealing with emergency surgery.

Hopefully, it will be a simple operation at this point. I'm definitely sorry you both have to deal with this, hernias suck!

Thanks all. I think the thing that stinks the most is that this is supposed to be the last week of work for him , and insurance questions are lingering, and he is in the middle of a job search dealing with up-coming surgery.

There is never a good time for surgery, but this feels esp. bad timing wise.

          Thanks for all the support.

          Love,

Couldn't help but notice your quote. Like water, the space will be filled, keep your eyes open...can't help but feel this is all part of something better in the long run! None the less, it is very exhausting! Thinking of you, Sharon

Oh Margaret, I'm sorry that you and Boyce have hit a bump in the road. Can you call Sheinfeld's office and ask Andriene to find out if it could result from the surgery? If it is and that somehow helps with your insurance at least that would be of some relief.

I'm sorry you have all these things weighing on your mind right now. We're here when you need us.

Well folks...not sure how I feel about this...but it is NOT a hernia.

Boyce went to the doc and he said that he was 100% certain the pain in his side and the strange feelings in his scrotum are NOT a hernia. But what it IS, remains a mystery.

On one hand I am glad it is not a hernia, but on the other hand I am nervous not knowing what is causing my husband discomfort. So we will wait and see if he starts to feel better or if further tests are needed.

Boyce will have to come here and actually describe what he is feeling to see if anyone can offer him some imput as to what it actually is.

Hugs and many thanks to all.

Is mesh ever used when closing for an RPLND? Could this possibly be nerve impingement? I may be way off but thought I'd throw it out there.

This is what he says it feels like....in case anyone can help.

In his groin area he says it feels like a water ballon that when squeezed, all the fluid rolls to one side and then when released, all the fluid rolls back again. It is a rolling of fluid feeling.

He said it was very hard to describe. Not sure if this will even help, but I figured it was worth trying.

What kind of doctor saw Boyce? It drives me crazy to have a doctor say that they know !00%, but then stop there. Russell's Urologist told him !00% not cancer, then we learned otherwise a year too late. The answer sounds all too laxidazical for me!!!! Keep in touch, Sharon
