Dr. Sheinfeld is just great. I know he can be sort of matter-of-fact but I always felt like he and I had a special doctor-patient connection. We are both from Scarsdale, NY so he asked me all about what part of the town I live in, etc (his kids went to my high school). I am also on the BYU ski team and compete at a collegiate level - he seemed very interested in that (I think he is a skier) and in reassuring me that I would be totally 100% ready for the ski season, just 4 months post-RPLND. He told me he has performed the RPLND on several professional athletes, including hockey and football players, and they have all gone back to play professionally with no loss of ability. What an incredible man and what a blessing to have him as a doctor, whether he performs the RPLND or not - he and his support staff are all the very best! I owe my future children to his skilled hands!

    Physast,

I live near Duke, if you ever need a place to stay while you are in town, you will always have a place with us.

Not having swellen nodes is great. Make sure you bring copies of everything to Sloan when you visit them.

My CT scan did not show any swollen lymph nodes. Actually the CT scan came back all clean (full scan) except for a 7mm nodule on m right liver, but the doctor said that it was probably nothing. I would agree if the lymph nodes were swollen I would be more than willing to have the surgery.

And like you said with the teratoma it's best to get that out because Chemo and radiation do not do so well with teratoma.

I should be getting my second opinion on my path from Indianapolis this week. Maybe even today!

If the lymph nodes are still swollen he will want you to have an RPLND. My big concern for you is that you had 50% teratoma. If the nodes have teratoma in them they really should be removed.

So everyone says he is good for the RPLND, but I am not seeking this surgery. And I assume he will try to push this on me if he is an expert.

Is he good for surveillance as well?

Yes, Dr. Sheinfeld is the best.....he did my sons RPLND two years ago...and while he may not have the best bedside manner - to Chris our son, he was wonderful. I drove him crazy and he got used to it the week we were there...but Chris and him had a great understanding....take care..Mary Ellen

When it comes to either Skinner or Sheinfeld I don't think you can go wrong, both men do over 100 RPLND's a year.

My husband had is RPLND from Dr. Foster at IU. Dr. Foster also was a part of his chest/neck surgery. We absolutely believe Dr. Foster is the best there is. He's done over 1400 of these (in the week we were there he did 5 in that week). The hospital itself is top notch, the nurses are wonderful and the city is great. We went for a second opinion at Sloan prior to getting a third opinion at IU and we were not received well at Sloan. But there are many, many people here who've been treated at Sloan with great experiences. I think you will be in amazing hands wherever you go. Good Luck.

Brian is having his RPLND by Dr. sheinfeld in a about a month. like everyone says, hes is not a very chatty, chipper, warm and fuzzy guy! and the bedside manner is, well, non-existent! BUT! we are aware that he is the BEST!!!!!!!! and thats all that matters!! Brian says, he looks like homie the clown! and yes, i could see how you would think he looks like larry david! ahahaha. thats so true!

best of luck with everything! if you are going to him, you are going to be taken care of very well!

Anyway. Physast, I adore him. My husband had many complications with his surgery and Sheinfeld literally did not sleep until he was well. One night there was a two-unit blood transfusion and Sheinfeld called our nurse every hour on the hour to check on my husband. He was in our room constantly until he knew Rob was truly out of the woods.

He is not warm and fuzzy and it took us almost three weeks to get him to laugh.

No one does anything without his express say-so.
You should have seen his face when I hugged and kissed him. He ran away from me like the building was on fire. But I think I did get a tiny smile

Great, I am glad that he is liked by people on the forum! Since he is a great surgeon I suspect he might bring up the RPLND surgery, but that is something I do not want to do. I am still waiting on my second opinion from Indianapolis.

I really do not know what to expect, but from what you all have said it will be quick to the point and exactly what he thinks needs to be done.
