It is with great sadness that I read of Niki's passing today. His was an indomitable spirit. Despite advanced T.C. his reports were always matter-of-fact, and his tone upbeat. He accomplished more during the course of his disease than most accomplish while blessed with disease-free bodies. He continued to climb and hike and enjoy his life, despite his many difficulties.
Niki, the view must be amazing from where you are! You have inspired many with your courage and your attitude...Rest in Peace!Detected mass 10-6-06, Radical left I/O 10-10-06, Stage I seminoma, 1.5 cm primary, No LV invasion, No Rete Testis Invasion... Currently on Surveillance.

Tomorrow I will give Niki 60 miles. As a special tribute I will climb two hills one I've done many times and the other I have avoided. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do them both without stepping off but I'm gonna give it one heck of a try. For those familure with the area I will be climbing French Hill then at the top drop down to Packanack Lake and climb Osborne Terr. that should be at about mile 50.Last edited by dadmo; 06-12-08, 10:39 AM.Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. What a morning ride, I felt great and I felt Niki with me. In fact I had a dream that Niki and I were getting ready to climb and he came into my tent to wake me up for the final push of the week and it actually woke me up at 4:45 this morning which is the time I should have set the alarm for but failed to. Nice job on the one Niki.Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04. Full open RPLND 10/13/04. All Clear since.

Tho' much is taken, much abides; and though we are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are; one equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will; to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I'm sure I never shared with anyone how often Niki and I talked about mountain climbing and his potential attempt to help me climb Mt. Rainier. Anyway todays ride was amazing, I could not have hoped for anything better. This morning for my front half of the 60 miles the honeysuckle was blooming every inch of the way and the smell was glorieous. For this afternoons hill climb the temperature was perfect my first climb was as hard as usual. I finished that and dropped down to the lake. At the lake front I took a short break to have an energy bar and then headed out. Very early on in the climb this song began to play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRdqHzVxPQM. I have always thought of our sons as my son and the pain of what they go through was never more on the surface. I have to tell you it's not easy to ride with tears in your eyes but this gave me the boost I needed. It was such an amazing day that later in the season I will ride for Niki again and add a third hill.Last edited by dadmo; 06-13-08, 11:15 PM.Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04.
