hello everyone.my friend scott in the past few days has gone for his stem cell harvesting at Sloan.he only had to go two times,i guess people on average have to go alot more then that.they collected 15 million stems cells thru his blood, and ran tests to see how his bone marrow was.they said that his number of stem cells was at least 7 times higher then anyone they had ever seen and said "he has the most amazing, resillient bone marrow theyd ever encountered".this is a good thing.they said because of this, his body can handle larger doses of chemo then anyone normally can,and his body recovers from stress better as well.now the bad news.today, when he woke up he was hallucinating and had the worst chills of his entire life.he went to Yale, and had a 104 degree fever as of this morning.although he has the ability to replenish his immune system, this takes time, and the chemo has taken its toll on his white blood cells.he is very sick.has anyone else gotten sick while on chemo with comprimised immunity?and if so,how did you fare?

Derek12:
I'm sorry that your friend is having such a hard time. Sickness is a common issue with people going thru chemo, make sure your friend tells his doctors that he has a fever of 104, it's not uncommon but it needs to be taken care of. The chemo will weaken the immune system to such a point that things that normally might not be noticed can be life threatining in a chemo patient. He also needs to talk to his doctors about being sick to his stomach, they have pills for that to. Good luck and keep us posted.Last edited by dadmo; 01-02-06, 08:19 PM.Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04.
